Gender parity among experts at AQU Catalunya
Of the 777 experts who contributed to the evaluation of institutions, degree programmes and teaching staff at AQU Catalunya in 2025, 49% were women.
AQU Catalunya has achieved gender balance within its pool of experts. In 2025, the number of men and women involved in the evaluations carried out by the Agency was very similar. Specifically, of the 777 experts who collaborated with the Agency, 49% were women — an increase of two percentage points compared to the previous year.
A breakdown by committee shows that parity has also been maintained. Women accounted for 43% of the Institutional and Programme Review Commission (CAIP), 52% of the Research Assessment Commission (CAR), and 50% of the Appeals Commission (COAPEL). In addition, both the CAR and the COAPEL are chaired by women: Maria Pau Ginebra and Neus Vidal, respectively.
To carry out its evaluation activities, AQU Catalunya draws on individuals of recognised academic and professional standing, as well as students, in accordance with criteria of independence, objectivity and absence of conflicts of interest. Gender parity within the Agency reflects the commitments set out in the AQU Catalunya Equality Plan 2024–2027, which was approved by the Governing Council in 2023 and published in January 2024. Among other objectives, the document establishes the need to “achieve balanced representation and participation”. The Agency’s Equality Plan also complies with the requirements of Royal Decree-Law 6/2019 of 1 March, on urgent measures to guarantee equal treatment and opportunities between women and men in work and employment, and Law 9/2022 of 21 December on science.
