Registration Open for the ‘Research Integrity’ Conference
The session, which will take place at the University of Girona, is part of the series Quality and University Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, whose inaugural session attracted strong participation.
Registration is now open for the conference Research Integrity. The session, which will be held exclusively online and broadcast on 2 July from the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Girona (UdG), forms part of the series Quality and University Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. The series was launched by AQU Catalunya and the Inter-University Council of Catalonia on 3 June with a highly successful hybrid event held at the University of Barcelona.
The University of Girona session, the second of the five events that make up the series, is designed to share and consolidate work that has been under way for some time in the field of responsible artificial intelligence applied to research activity. The aim is to discuss and strengthen the initiatives being developed with the various stakeholders of the Catalan university system, with a particular focus on how to ensure quality and scientific integrity in this new era.
The programme includes a round-table discussion entitled Artificial Intelligence and Scientific Integrity: Tensions, Boundaries and Responsibilities in University Research, which will address broad cross-cutting issues to help frame the debate and establish the foundations for the subsequent working groups. This will be followed by a closed working session entitled From Diagnosis to Action: Challenges and Solutions for Safeguarding Integrity in the Age of AI.
Among the challenges to be explored are human accountability when generative AI makes decisions, intellectual authorship, the effectiveness of disclosure mechanisms regarding the use of AI to safeguard research integrity, the protection of privacy and confidentiality, and the risk that AI may encourage more homogeneous research or promote easy consensus. The recommendations arising from the session will be compiled into a practical summary document intended as a useful and operational guide for shaping the policies and initiatives that the Catalan university system may wish to promote in this area.
