The Research Assessment Commission modifies the assessment criteria of the Specific commission for Engineering and Architecture
The changes have been introduced so that the commission has more tools to be able to assess the files of researchers working in large scientific facilities, since they have very different publication patterns from the rest.
The particularities of the way in which some researchers in the field of engineering and architecture publish have motivated the Research Assessment Commission (CAR) to modify the criteria of the Specific commission for Engineering and Architecture (CEEA) to evaluate its research activity. Usually, researchers in these areas who work in large research centres publish very frequently and sign the studies jointly with many other authors, something that does not happen so often with the rest of the researchers assessed by the CEEA. Following the changes approved by the CAR at its last meeting in December 2023, new criteria that focus specifically on accreditations of research (assistants) and advanced research (professors) will now allow for a better analysis of their output.
The CAR included the changes to its activity established by the LOSU in this meeting, and also approved the criteria for the evaluation of the research activity of the contracted PDI and the civil servant PDI for 2024. In this area, it gave the green light to the new procedure for the assessment of the research activity of the official and contracted PDI for periods that have ended no later than 31 December 2023.
Furthermore, the CAR approved the modification of the calls for research and advanced research for 2024, which will go from being made in two annual calls of three weeks each to become a single annual call open on a permanent basis. Finally, the approval of the resolution publicising the procedure and certification of the assessment of the individual teaching and management merits of the teaching and research staff, civil servants and contractors of the Catalan public universities merited until 31 December 2023.
Among other functions, the CAR is the commission in charge of issuing accreditations research and advanced research as well as evaluating the activity carried out by researchers and assessing the individual research merits of teaching and research staff, civil servants and contractors, for the allocation of remuneration supplements. Currently, the commission is chaired by Dr. Maria Pau Ginebra, professor at the Barcelona School of Engineering at the Technical University of Catalonia.
