The selection process for the new director of AQU Catalunya has opened
The Agency is publishing the terms and conditions of the open, competitive and confidential selection process to decide who will fill this role for the next four years from 1 October 2025.

AQU Catalunya launched the open and competitive process of free competition to decide who will become the Agency's director for the next four years, an appointment that can only be extended for a further four years. The selection process follows the criteria that AQU Catalunya's Governing Board approved at its last meeting on 10 December 2024, and the one set out in Article 9 of Act 15/2015, of 21 July, on AQU Catalunya.
Essentially, the successful candidate will have to fulfil the principles of merit and ability and meet the suitability criteria. More specifically, they must be a university professor (or equivalent) or have advanced research accreditation or accreditation as a professor issued by AQU Catalunya (or equivalent); be in active employment; have proven experience in research, teaching, university management and project management; be familiar with the Catalan Higher Education System and have a good command of written and spoken Catalan, Spanish and English.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical and administrative management of AQU Catalunya, implementing the decisions of the Governing Board and Standing Commission, and will also chair the Institutional and Programme Review Commission. They will be employed under a senior management contract and will be expected to work full-time at the location, following a special senior management schedule. They will also need to be available to travel. The remuneration for this position is €94,324 gross per year, plus three years (remuneration referenced to 2024).
A confidential process
The completely confidential selection process consists of four phases. Firstly, they are checked to ensure that they meet the participation requirements, secondly, their merits are assessed based on their accredited CV, thirdly, the project they intend to direct at AQU Catalunya is assessed, and fourthly, they undergo a personal interview. The Selection Committee is made up of four people: Francesc Xavier Grau Vidal, President of AQU Catalunya and of the Selection Committee; Javier Lafuente Sancho, Vice-Chancellor of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and representative of the AQU Catalunya Governing Board; Miren Nekane Balluerka Lasa, Professor of Behavioural Sciences Methodology at the University of the Basque Country - Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, as a professor of recognised international prestige, and Maria Giné Soca, secretary of AQU Catalunya and of the Governing Board, in a non-voting capacity, acting as secretary of the Selection Committee.
