ShareAQU Catalunya publishes the CAR’s annual report
The Agency has released today the document that compiles all the activity carried out by the Research Evaluation Commission throughout 2025.

AQU Catalunya has made public the 2025 Report on the activity of the Research Evaluation Commission (CAR). The purpose of the document is to report to AQU Catalunya’s Governing Council on the actions undertaken by the CAR during the past year. The text focuses on quantitative matters such as the resolutions of accreditation calls and research merits that take place annually, but it also includes activities that are specific to each particular year. For example, the implementation of the new accreditation criteria for teaching staff, adapted to the new regulatory framework established by the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), which the CAR approved on 20 January 2025.
Regarding the CAR’s activity that recurs annually, the report highlights contributions related to the different calls. For research accreditations, the report states that in 2025 a total of 507 applications were received. Of these, 287 obtained favourable results, 145 unfavourable, 73 were not considered assessable, and 2 are still pending evaluation. According to the report, accreditations for aggregated faculty issued by the CAR during 2025 based on the new evaluation criteria were favourable in 69.3% of cases. The specific commissions with the highest number of favourable resolutions were Medical and Health Sciences and Engineering and Architecture, each with 80%. Of the 177 applications to which the new criteria were applied, the teaching dimension was recognised in a total of 36.
Regarding advanced research accreditations, the report indicates that in 2025 a total of 281 applications were received. Of these, 139 obtained favourable results, 123 unfavourable, 18 were not considered assessable, and 1 is still pending evaluation. According to the report, the accreditations for full professor issued by the CAR under the new criteria during 2025 totalled 42, with 37.5% being favourable. The specific commissions with the highest number of favourable resolutions were Humanities and Social Sciences, each with 50%. Of the 42 applications to which the new criteria were applied, the teaching dimension was recognised in a total of 19.
The call for issuing the report on non-permanent contracted faculty under the Serra Húnter Plan remained open throughout the year. A total of 27 applications were submitted, of which 18 were assessed as suitable, 2 as not suitable, and 7 were closed without evaluation.
Regarding the CAR’s specific activities in 2025, the report includes all information related to the rollout, implementation, and presentation sessions of the new criteria, as well as the training of experts for this purpose. It also addresses the evaluation procedure for the performance of junior faculty, equality and work-life balance measures, and the promotion of Catalan within the university system. Finally, it provides the results of surveys conducted with applicants and evaluators to examine the work carried out by the CAR and the specific commissions, as well as data on the composition of these commissions.
The CAR, chaired by Maria Pau Ginebra Molins, full professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), has competencies such as issuing research and advanced research accreditations; evaluating the activity carried out by researchers; assessing the individual research merits of teaching and research staff, both civil servants and contracted staff, for the allocation of salary supplements; and evaluating the research activity of teaching and research staff at private universities.
