AQU Catalunya publishes the 2024 annual report from the Institutional and Programme Review Commission
The CAIP, through its permanent commissions, engages in activities relating to the Framework for the Validation, Modification, Monitoring, and Accreditation of University Degrees.

AQU Catalunya has published the annual report on the Institutional and Programme Review Commission’s (CAIP) 2024 activity. The document, prepared by AQU Catalunya’s Quality Assessment Department, serves as the principal instrument for communicating the activities undertaken by the CAIP in the past year to the AQU Catalunya Governing Board. Throughout 2024, the CAIP, through its permanent commissions, has engaged in activities relating to the Framework for the Validation, Modification, Monitoring, and Accreditation of University Degrees (VSMA Framework), the certification of the implementation of internal quality assurance systems, and institutional accreditation.
In addition to these groups of activities, during the past year, the CAIP tackled other challenges that fall within its sphere of action. These are as follows: the implementation of the factual errors phase, developments associated with institutional accreditation, the implementation of the first pilot institutional accreditation renewal, the monitoring of the institutional accreditation of Doctoral Schools, revising degree reports to align with the current legal system, the creation of a student methodology, the development of benchmarks to facilitate the design of new programmes, and reviewing the European Approach methodology.
The CAIP is the permanent commission responsible for assessing, certifying and accrediting the institutional quality of higher education institutions. In this capacity, the CAIP oversees the effective implementation of all the quality assurance tools and processes used by the Agency at the institutional level. Additionally, it seeks to promote and enhance the Agency’s work while fostering cooperation and exchange with other institutions, both nationally and internationally. The review, accreditation and certification procedures used comply with the requirements of the applicable international quality standards and norms.
Among others, the main functions of the CAIP, as set out in the Agency’s statutes, are the review of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and management within the higher education system; the assessment, certification, auditing and accreditation of the quality of universities, their research and innovation centres and higher education institutions; and the assessment, certification, monitoring and accreditation, in accordance with international academic and social standards, of the courses leading to recognised and non-recognised qualifications awarded by universities and other higher education institutions. It also encourages the evaluation and comparison of quality standards using international benchmarks, particularly in relation to teaching, research and knowledge transfer, and drafts reports on areas for improvement identified in universities, their research and innovation centres and higher education institutions, with the goal of enhancing their overall quality.
