AQU Catalunya’s Research Evaluation Committee Has Positively Assessed 61.7% of Research Applications Over the Past 22 Years
The application period that ended in February was the last to use the old criteria. The new criteria, already in effect, were approved by the Research Evaluation Committee (CAR) in January 2025.
Over the past 22 years, the Research Evaluation Committee (CAR) of AQU Catalunya has received a total of 15,695 applications. From 2003 until February 2025, the period during which the previous research and advanced research evaluation criteria were applied, the CAR issued positive assessments for a total of 8,969 applications. The calls, aimed at applicants seeking accreditation as associate or full professors, resulted in 5,627 applications being considered unfavorable. These figures mean that 61.7% of all evaluated applications were deemed favorable, a number that includes the 1,099 applications that were received but closed without evaluation.
Among research evaluation applications, the field contributing the most was Social Sciences, with a total of 2,818 applications. In contrast, the field contributing the least was Life Sciences, with 1,136 applications. The field with the highest proportion of positive assessments was Sciences, with 74.6% of the total.
Regarding advanced research applications, the field contributing the most was also Social Sciences, with 1,123 applications, while Life Sciences contributed the least, with 368. The field with the highest proportion of favorable assessments relative to applications submitted was Sciences, with 76.9%.
The call that ended in January 2025 was the last to apply the old criteria, that is, those not adapted to Organic Law 2/2023 of 22 March, on the University System of Catalonia. The new criteria, which are in effect for the current calls, began to be applied on 1 April 2025.
