AQU Catalunya participates in an ENQA workshop on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in quality assurance agencies
At the event held in Estonia, the Agency presents a pioneering analysis on the use of AI in programme accreditation developed in 2024.

AQU Catalunya was one of the agencies invited by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) to participate in the workshop Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Quality Assurance Agencies, which began today in Tallinn, Estonia. The event, organized by the Estonian quality agency (HAKA), will feature a presentation tomorrow by Josep Lluís Mateos González, Project Manager of the Internationalization and Knowledge Generation Area at AQU Catalunya, who will share the preliminary analysis on the use of artificial intelligence in programme accreditation published by AQU Catalunya in 2024.
Specifically, the document presented at the ENQA workshop analyzes the effectiveness of applying AI methodologies to predict accreditation outcomes based on available evaluation indicators. This analysis is especially timely, as the university system possesses an exponentially growing volume and variety of data, while quality assessment processes are shifting towards institutional evaluation approaches, which inevitably places less emphasis on programme-by-programme evaluation and more on a global perspective. In other words, this shift makes it necessary to identify the key indicators that characterize the quality of a programme within the framework of institutional accreditation. The ultimate goal of the analysis is to assess whether simplified tools can be developed that serve as a useful complement for various stakeholders.
The ENQA workshop, which concludes tomorrow, aims to explore quality agencies’ perspectives on integrating AI into external quality assurance and its role in supporting higher education institutions in using AI for learning, teaching, and assessment. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange views through case studies and working sessions. AQU Catalunya has been a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education since its founding in 2000.
