Reports on cross-sectional assessment in Design published
These reports show the status of training on official bachelor's degree-level and arts higher education (EAS) programmes in the field of Design.

During the year 2020 AQU Catalunya drew up cross-sectional Design assessment reports, which are published today. These cross-sectional reports aim to analyse the status of official programmes and generate valuable information about our system, beyond the results of the assessments carried out for all official programmes.
The reports reflect the status of training on official bachelor's degree-level and arts higher education (EAS) programmes in this field, both with the same MECES (Spanish Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) level, in order to contribute to its improvement. This is one of the few areas where this double training offer is included, which, despite being equivalent, identifies notable differences in the characteristics of these degrees. Within this field four great mentions or specialisations can be differentiated: graphic, product, interior and fashion design (it does not include design degrees that do not belong to the field of Humanities, such as Industrial Design Engineering). In recent years, numerous degrees have appeared in the field of digital design and animation, which, although not part of the field of Humanities, have led to an expansion and growth of the sector, with clear repercussions on the whole of the system's offer.
The main conclusions are:
- The centres assessed have passed the AQU Catalunya external assessment and have been accredited. With the exception of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona and the ESDi Affiliated Centre of Ramon Llull University, the centres' accreditation is conditional on the correction of weak points detected during assessment.
- Total available places on these courses are sufficient; however, there are notably fewer at public universities compared to private universities.
- These are highly feminised studies, except in the case of Digital Design and Animation where we find the same number of men as women.
- In the case of academic results, efficiency and performance are higher than in the global Humanities field and the average of the Catalan university system. However, as with other bachelor's degree programmes, these indicators worsen for the distance learning format.
- In terms of employment, a high percentage of graduates of these courses are self-employed (self-employed) and have lower incomes. Compared to degrees in the field of Humanities, Design has higher levels of both employment and suitability of training for employment.
- In general, graduates's satisfaction with the training received is below the average of the Catalan university system. However, creativity, teamwork and critical thinking are the skills most valued in Design degrees and considerably exceed the Catalan average.
