The Institutional and Programme Review Commission (CAIP) holds its first meeting of 2026
The session approved the Subject Benchmark Statement in Medicine.
The Institutional and Programme Review Commission (CAIP) of AQU Catalunya held its first meeting of 2026 yesterday, in an online format. After approving the minutes of the previous meeting —held in December 2025—, the Commission addressed the first item on the agenda, which consisted of approving the Subject Benchmark Statement in Medicine. This document is intended to guide universities in the design and evaluation of new bachelor’s degree programmes in the field of Medicine. The text is not mandatory and does not seek to establish a common curriculum for all higher education institutions; rather, it aims to support universities in designing degree programmes in this field. Furthermore, as it does not prescribe specific approaches to teaching, learning or assessment methodologies, institutions can adapt it to their context and to their specific educational objectives.
The session, which was the second chaired by Mercè Gisbert, director of the Agency since last October, also served to approve two agreements. The first concerns the procedure for obtaining institutional accreditation for centres at both public and private universities. The second establishes the evaluation procedure for the authorisation of centres that deliver programmes based on foreign education systems. The next CAIP meeting is scheduled for the end of April.
The CAIP is the AQU Catalunya commission responsible for ensuring the proper implementation of the set of quality assurance instruments and processes carried out by AQU Catalunya in relation to programmes and institutions. The CAIP, which operates through specific subcommissions, has functions such as the evaluation of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and the management of the university system; the evaluation, certification, auditing and accreditation of the quality of universities, their research and innovation centres, and higher education institutions; and the promotion of evaluation and the comparison of quality criteria in accordance with international standards, particularly with regard to teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
